Lough Currane is cradled within the mountains of County
Kerry, S.W. Ireland. It totals 2,500 acres and is 3 ½ miles
long and 2 miles at it’s widest.
The lough is one of the best sea trout fisheries in the
country and big spring salmon and vast numbers of sea trout
have to run only a short 500 yard length of river to reach the
lough.
Ask any local the best times to fish and it will be early
spring and the other August. It is now the lakes are full of
fish. Joining the spring fish which are now throughout the
system, the lakes are also full of sea trout in the 2 to 3 lb
range which entered from May on plus the large run of Grilse
which are regularly taken on fly. August also sees hatch of
the red ants which can produce some of the most exciting
surface sport of the season, with trout gorging themselves on
these surface trapped terrestrials.
Once again I have arranged for local angler and Irish
Champion, John Buckley to team up with us for the full 3
days to guide us.
As well as Lough Currane we also have the added bonus of
getting permission to fish the upper lakes in the system run
by John Murphy of the Waterville Fisheries Development Group.
The Upper Lakes are set in the most breathtaking surroundings
and consist of Derriana, Namona and Cloonaghlin.
