Lough Currane is cradled within the mountains of County
Kerry, S.W. Ireland. It totals 2,500 acres and is 3 ½ miles
long and 2 miles at it’s widest.
The lough is one of the best sea trout fisheries in the
country and big spring salmon and vast numbers of sea trout
have to run only a short 500 yard length of river to reach the
lough.
The best chance of getting a Spring Salmon or a large sea
trout is from the beginning of March to beginning of May, so
the dates I have chosen are specifically for the early big
fish runs. On this weekend last year the biggest sea trout
caught was just over 11lb.
For this trip I have arranged for local angler and Irish Champion, John Buckley to team up with us for the full 3
days to guide us.
As well as Lough Currane we also have the added bonus of
getting permission to fish the upper lakes in the system run
by John Murphy of the Waterville Fisheries Developement Group.
The Upper Lakes are set in the most breathtaking surroundings
and consist of Derriana, Namona and Cloonaghlin. As well as
the sea trout & salmon runs, brown trout fishing is at
it's best at this time with the prolific hatches of duck fly.
This trip promises to be a cracker and places are limited to 5
anglers.
